Gallery owner Mr Molony has organised a show with a difference as more than 20 artists from the Central Coast and further afield display their latest works- on the decks of skateboards.
“I really wanted to do something different,” Mr Molony said.
“I wanted to challenge the artists with a different platform to work with.
“I have done some work on surfboards and skateboards in the past, so I thought — why not an exhibition of painted skateboards?”
The word quickly spread with artists flocking to express their interest.
“I wanted to focus mostly on Coast artists because they don’t have a great many places at which they can exhibit, but we do have some works from Sydney and Coffs Harbour,” he said.
“There is a great mix of artworks — 27 boards in all.
“We have a diverse range of styles including boards from indigenous artists, tattooists, illustrators, designers and even a florist.”
The show will open on Friday night from 6-10pm and continue from 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
The gallery is at 25 Forresters Beach Rd at Gracelands, which is located beneath the gallery, open on Friday night for dinner and drinks. “All artists featured are young,” Mr Molony said.
“I think our oldest exhibiting artist is 40.
“This is designed to be fun celebration of art on the Coast.”
